What We Do…

  • Manage Trash and Recycling for over 3,500 refuse containers across the Village.

  • Collect Brush and Pine Needles by collaborating with the Forestry Department to recycle debris collected by specialized trucks.

  • Promote Recycling by diverting over 45% of waste from landfills into recyclable products.

  • Operate the Transfer Station on Gavilan Canyon that transports waste to the Otero/Lincoln County Landfill.

Recycling Guidelines

Cardboard Recycling

Recyclable Cardboard:

  • Clean corrugated cardboard (characterized by its multiple layers, with two outer layers and a wavy inner layer).

Non-Recyclable Cardboard:

  • Paperboard (a thicker, single-layer paper used in products like cereal boxes, frozen food packaging, and paper takeout containers).

  • Cardboard contaminated with food or oil, such as pizza boxes or cooking oil boxes.

Plastic Recycling

Recyclable Plastics:

  • Only plastics labeled with #1 or #2 (polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), typically with necks (e.g., clear plastic water bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles).

Non-Recyclable Plastics:

  • Plastic bags, darker plastic drink bottles, takeout containers, takeout cups, microwave dinner plates, motor oil, and frying oil containers.

  • Thin, shiny white bottles that may look similar to recyclable plastics but are not #1 or #2 plastics.

Shredded Paper Recycling

  • Bagged white shredded paper can be recycled at the Greentree Solid Waste Authority (GSWA) location.

Metal Recycling

  • Metal can be dropped off for recycling at GSWA at no charge (note: GSWA does not pay for metal recycling).

  • For copper recycling, an ID is required, and GSWA does not accept copper wire unless it has been removed from its outer casing.
